30 Dec Sebastian Vettel constructs a “Bee Hotel” with children in Austria.
Sebastian Vettel, F1 driver and well-known green campaigner, has created a new habitat for bees with the help of local schoolchildren.
The four-time world champion and father of three has spoken several times about his passion for green projects, sustainability and the environment, and earlier this year, Vettel became an ambassador of “Bio Bienen Apfel” – a project aiming to create a safe habitat for bees.
So, Vettel had the idea of starting a creative hands-on competition together with the Styrian elementary schools in order to bring the children closer to the topic of the species protection. The project was about building a hotel for bees close to the circuit in the shape of a Formula 1 racing car.
Once the winning design had been chosen, Vettel went about building it with local children on Thursday before returning to the Red Bull Ring with several packets of flower seeds for bee-friendly plants, which he then distributed to media.
“This morning was very exciting because I was out close to the track on a field and we installed a racing car – but a very unconventional racing car because it is a hotel for insects and bees,” said Vettel on Thursday.
“I had a group of kids with me to build up the racing car. The idea behind it is to build up a little more space for insects, and in particular bees, to have more space where they can flourish and live. Hopefully there will be a lots of flowers growing in the future and a lot of bees coming to their new home – it will be free of charge!”
About Bio Bienen Apfel
From Frutura website “Bees create delicious honey. But that’s by no means all they do – many people don’t know just how important bees are for our society. They also contribute enormously to our ecosystem as pollinating insects.
Pollination of agricultural plants by bees is immensely important for us. Their global economic benefit amounts to around 265 billion Euro (Data from 2015). Information that does not often find its way into the public consciousness.
Bees are an evolutionary miracle and indispensable for humans and animals. The bee is Austria’s most important pollinator of flowering plants.
Everyone can do something to protect bees. We are launching the first international environmental project FROM society FOR society!
A unique project that involves the whole of Austrian society for the first time! Together we can give bees a voice.
A connection between society and nature to enable us to live in this world together.
Frutura’s BioBienenApple, and numerous partners from business, politics, sports and selected ambassadors, are doing their utmost to create new bee habitats.
Whether in the private domain in balcony beds or home gardens, or in large publicly created “bee meadows”. Frutura’s certified contract organic producers naturally also support this important mission and are giving bees a home.
